Pretty warm in Athens the last few days; 68 was the high yesterday. It was somewhat cloudy in the morning, but started raining before we got home in the afternoon.
Ray and I took a little walk and then he hung out the clothes. I bathed and worked on my appearance for my job interview. Suit, white blouse, small pin, even lipstick and eyeshadow and a touch of mascara. My father arrived before we left--he said I looked like a businessman. I hope that is a good thing.
We drove to Ray's office and he ran in and got his paycheck. As we are switching banks, he cancelled the automatic deposit and the new deposit hasn't taken effect yet. This means some tricky maneuvering and record-keeping to make sure we pay all our bills on time.
I was at the interview a little early, properly attired and with the references they had requested. Three supervisory references is a little tricky, and a recent job evaluation. I didn't really have that, but I had a letter from the board president at the Homeless Shelter that is very complimentary. The questions were quite easy to answer positively. How much knowledge do you have of the following computer software packages? (extensive or good on all of them). What are your good qualities and bad qualities? I am not chatty...because I am not from the South, people think I am rude...I think I did a good job on this interview. Two things concern me (or three): I am seriously over-qualified. I have been turned down for jobs in the past for this reason, but I think this quasi-governmental agency will be less likely to do that. The salary starts at $24,000, but they could offer me more based on my background. That decision will be made at the State level. Really big question: do I want to spend 40 hours a week in a room with a computer, entering information about clients I never see who need housing? The other side: This organization also has housing counselors and I would probably be eligible for one of those positions and maybe others when they open. Will they consider that when deciding whether to hire me? Don't know.
Then to deposit Ray's check and home. My Dad was there, about to take a bath. He was excited because Nancy H. was going to dinner last night at Porterhouse with him. I did some preliminary work on a chicken and rice dish for potluck, but realized I needed to buy some things before I could finish it. Made a sandwich for lunch. Made some phone calls.
Went to Kroger and bought groceries. Deposited a check in the bank account I am closing because I found out the mortgage will be taken out of there (probably) on Monday. Went to pick up the invitations. The designer pointed out that they were not cut right. The English side looked great, but the cut was too close to the design on the Spanish side. I probably would not have noticed, but I agreed, they should be redone. Now they will be ready today or tomorrow. Meanwhile, I can finish addressing the envelopes.
Picked up Ray and came home. Finished the casserole. Addressed some more envelopes. Had a meltdown. Well, not quite. Deciding on how to address people is really annoying. The proper way is Mr. and Mrs. Raymond P. Lynde (for instance). I prefer (and so does Ray) just the names. Patty and Ray or Patricia and Raymond (with or without a middle initial) Freeman-Lynde. Otherwise, you have to list the names on two lines: Mr. Raymond Freeman-Lynde, Ms. Patricia Freeman-Lynde. Molli and I have put all the names in an online address list on theknot.com, but we haven't been worrying about the titles. If there is someone who cares, I would not want to upset them. Anyway, I started freaking out about that. And how annoying that I even have to worry about it. In particular, I addressed my friend Janna's as Mr. Ron Cervero and Ms. Janna Dresden. Of course, they are both Doctors. Do I have to redo it and waste an envelope? Will they really care?
We went to potluck and I was falling asleep in choir again. We went right to bed when I got home. I woke up at 4:30 and was disappointed but not surprised, but apparently I managed to go back to sleep again until 6:30! Foggy again this morning.
