Summer afternoon

Actually, it's still spring, by the calendar.
Rumbling above suggests rain.
We wait hopefully.

The tomato plants are drooping.
To water or not?

Too hot to cook,
we don't want to make it hotter in the house.
Ray starts the grill.
No electricity until 7.
It's cooler inside, even without ac.
We make an exception for some of the overhead fans,
But I like it on the porch.
Gladys, the dowager hen, is strutting around the yard.
The young ones squawk in the run.
Cicadas buzz.
There is a background noise of birds in the woods.
Sweat on my nose.
