The most fun I've had in ages was at lunch yesterday. An old friend from when our children were small came to Athens and called Becky. Her name is Sue Koehler. There were seven of us at lunch and we had so much fun. She seems like such a kindred spirit, I wish I had been in touch with her all along. She and her husband live in Texas. They are retired! She talked about books she had read and her son's wedding in New York last summer and how much fun it was.
In the morning, my father and I went to an OLLI class on the Biology of Aging. We learned some interesting and helpful things. Like loneliness is really bad for you. My Dad asked, so is it better for you to spend time with people who really annoy you? and Dr. Harris (age 85) said absolutely. I pointed out to my Dad that you are doing them a favor by annoying them too. (lol)
We spent almost 3 hours at lunch (no parking ticket, yay!) and then I was home for about an hour before my Dad arrived. He picked some lettuce and a carrot for his salad and checked his email. He was talking about going to the basketball game last night, but I don't know if he did. This weekend is homecoming and Athens is full of traffic and people everywhere.
I picked Ray up, but had him take a bus and walk to where I couldn't drive any further because of the homecoming parade. It was after 6 and I hadn't made supper so we stopped at a South American restaurant on Prince. It was deserted. Too early for Mexican Americans to eat and not the kind of place the students and alumni want to go for homecoming? I had fish tacos, one of my favorite things. I was sad they didn't have sangria, but ordered a jarrito. Ray had lomos saltado, which I like too. Mostly it features French fries and white rice, with a little meat and greasy gravy. This was not the best version of it.
Then we watched TV and went to bed. Pretty much all I did was eat and talk all day. Pretty fun!
