Aging Facts

Seventy percent of people over age 65 will need care for an average three years. That care could take many forms, from a family member providing it to full-time nursing home care.
According to Successful Aging, the biggest predictor of cognitive health in old age is Education.
The second biggest is lung capacity--really.
Women who reach 65 have an average life expectancy of 20 years.
If I live to age 90, there is a 50% chance I will have Alzheimer's disease. Of course, there is a 50% chance I won't.
By 2030, people 65 and older will make up about 20% of the U.S. population.
Although 90% of nursing home residents are over 65, they represent only 4.1% of the older population
In 2009, about 30% of older adults lived in urban "central cities", 53% in suburban areas, and the remaining 17% lived in small cities and rural areas
